Bearish wagers on the euro have eased, according to the latest Commitments of Traders data, signaling a modest shift in sentiment toward the single currency. The CFTC’s report on EUR speculative net positions for the Euro Zone shows net shorts narrowing to -27.0K contracts, improving from the previous -42.6K.

The data, updated on 18 September 2026, indicates that while speculative positioning remains negative, market participants have scaled back their pessimism toward the euro. A reduction in net short positions often reflects either profit-taking on earlier bearish bets or the first signs of a reassessment of the euro’s outlook among leveraged funds and other speculative traders.

For now, the euro remains under net selling pressure, but the smaller short exposure suggests that the intensity of that pressure has weakened compared with the prior reading. Traders and investors will be watching upcoming Euro Zone data and policy signals to see whether this adjustment in positioning develops into a more sustained shift in market sentiment toward the currency.
