04.08.202614:00:00UTC+00U.S. Core Factory Orders Slip 0.4% in June After Strong May Gain

U.S. factory orders excluding transportation declined by 0.4% month-over-month in June 2026, reversing part of May’s solid 1.9% increase, according to data updated on 4 August 2026. The indicator tracks changes in factory orders without the often-volatile transportation component, providing a clearer view of underlying demand in the manufacturing sector.

The June pullback follows a strong May performance, when core factory orders rose 1.9% compared with April 2026. On a month-over-month basis, the latest reading suggests a moderation in momentum after that prior surge, as businesses scaled back orders outside the transportation space.

The comparison framework shows June’s actual figure (-0.4%) as the change from May to June, while the previous reading (1.9%) reflects the change from April to May. Together, the data signal a short-term cooling in core manufacturing demand after a robust uptick in the prior month.
